I had the privilege of designing the logo for The Ziggy Playground which opened in July 2022. The playground, located in Kigali, Rwanda in Africa, is named in honor of my belated father-in-law, Fred S. Findling. He was affectionately known as “Ziggy” by his family. He was an orphaned survivor of the Holocaust who never lost his childhood spark.
INSPIRATION: The image in the logo was taken from an actual photo of Ziggy when he was an adolescent coming by boat to America with other orphaned children. I decided to include the photo as it captures the childhood spark he carried throughout his lifetime. Ziggy was kind to everyone no matter their color, background, or beliefs. I chose multiple bright colors for the letters in "Ziggy's" to reflect this trait and that the playground welcomes all people. Lastly, the brown used as a background for the word PLAYGROUND was used to represent the dirt/ground of the playground. A black and white version of the logo was designed for use on printed marketing pieces such as the beach balls shown below.
